I was reminded in an event recently that not all of us like, let alone love, the idea of cold calling. In fact more business struggle with this one element of driving sales than any other issue.
There is good news though. Cold calling is a learned skill. Once you have picked up the phone the first time you will see that it is easier than you think.
Here are 5 tips on how to nail cold calling in the next 30 days.
πIdentify the niche, target market that you want to focus on. Be very specific. For example, if you want to target medical professionals for equipment finance, identify a speciality such as dentists.
π Now pick an area and create a list. Even if there are only 7 names on the list, imagine how you will feel when you get to the end of the list.
π Create your script. What is your message in 30 seconds? What is the outcome of the call? Email address? Meeting? If you don’t know, you won’t ask.
π Who is the right person to speak to? Don’t mistake the person who signs the cheques to be the final decision maker. Going back to the dentist example, it may be a practise manager as opposed to the actual dentist, however, the dentist may have the final say.Once you have a relationship with the right person ask the next question, who else is involved in the
π No may be no today, but what does tomorrow bring – Keep an updated list on all your calls. Circle back every 3 months just to touch base. Circumstances change, people change and the amount of business I have gotten from circling back will blow your mind.
